Earth Day - Does the World Need Another Beauty Brand?

Greetings on Earth Day!

April 22nd marks the annual observance of Earth Day, an event dedicated to promoting environmental conservation and sustainability. The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970, and since then, it has grown into a global phenomenon, celebrated across more than 190 countries. The primary objective of this day is to raise awareness about various environmental issues, including climate change, pollution, deforestation, and endangered species, and inspire people to take action toward protecting our planet.

At Sealore, we believe in adopting Earth Day practices every day. Our philosophy is rooted in the notion that nature provides us with a wealth of resources, such as herbs, minerals, and other natural substances, that can be used to promote wellness and health. However, we recognise the importance of preserving these valuable resources for future generations.

When we decided to launch Sealore and share our products with a wider community, we had a niggling question in mind,
“Does the world really need another beauty brand?”

We are fully cognizant of the staggering magnitude of the beauty industry, and the proliferation of celebrity skincare lines has left us bewildered. The industry's documented adverse impact on the planet is alarming. We, too, have been ensnared by the harmful tactics employed by companies to foster overconsumption and peddle superfluous products. We yearned for a better option, no, we required a better option. Our well-being necessitated it. If we had found a way to help ourselves, then why not extend it to others? After much introspection, we firmly believed that we could offer our customers much more than what conventional mass-produced beauty brands could ever provide. Our mission was to offer products that promote natural beauty and wellness, without causing any depletion or harm to our planet's precious natural resources. At Sealore, we carefully crafted our brand to be eco-conscious from its very inception.

As consumers, we were disillusioned with “greenwashing,” where terms like ‘sustainable,' ‘clean,' or ‘natural' are often misleading and unregulated. To gain the trust of our community, we chose to acquire “Certified Organic” status, which requires every Sealore product to undergo a certification audit. Our products are made using 100% natural and over 95% certified organic ingredients. While this certification comes at a significant cost and involves a lot of administration, we believe it is the most valuable way to establish a transparent relationship with our customers. Certified organic farming practices promote biodiversity and reduce the use of harmful chemicals and pesticides, which can pollute the environment and harm wildlife. Organic farming also helps to conserve soil health and water resources, reducing the impact on the environment.

At Sealore, we encourage our customers to adopt a "buy better, buy less" approach. Our potent formulations are designed to be multi-purpose and effective in various applications. We do not use any unnecessary fillers or bulking agents, which means our products last longer. We prioritize circularity in our range, using processes that ensure 100% of our seaweeds are utilized in product production. We grow and hand-harvest our seaweeds and herbs, and wherever possible waste products of raw ingredients are integrated into our processes. Our packaging is made from recycled and recyclable materials, and we also offer refillable and reusable packaging options. We manufacture our entire range locally, by hand, in micro-batches, using sustainable energy resources, which helps to keep our carbon footprint minimal. We harvest, source, and manufacture only what is needed when it is needed, reducing the wastage of raw materials and products and eliminating the need for large product storage.

In the spirit of Earth Day, we would like to offer you five simple ways to take action toward preserving our planet:
1. Buy better, buy less.
2. Whenever possible, support small, independent businesses, and buy locally.
3. Choose organic products.
4. Leave your car at home at least one day per week.
5. Conserve energy by turning off lights, sockets, and devices.

Small steps taken by many can make a significant difference in preserving our planet for future generations.
